Originally
from Central New York Tony Blasting starting playing bass at age 15. He
fell hard for the instrument. Throwing him full - force into practicing
for hours on end to hone his craft. After learning as much as he possibly
could on his own, Tony up the ante and decide to take proper lessons. He
studied with Carmen Caramonica touring guitarists with Tony Orlando. Then
later on with Buffalo’s own Greg Piontek. This helped shape Tony’s musical
skills & knowledge as well as expanded his talent. He credits John
Entwistle & Stanley Clarke for having a strong influence on his playing
style. Besides playing electric bass, he plays upright & fretless bass,
can sight read, has strong improvisational skills, knows theory, writes,
and sings lead & harmony vocals, plays keyboards.
Blasting
moved to the Western New York area in 1980 to attend The University of
Buffalo, successfully graduating in 1985. Since the move he has been
playing around the Buffalo music scene for 20 plus years. With his diverse
musical back round Tony has been able to gig with a variety of bands. Most
notably a 5 year stint with the Lance Diamond Band ( show, lounge ) ,Mr.
Funny ( classic rock ), Locomotives ( blues ), Night Rhythm ( jazz ), Tin
Roof ( Dixieland ).
Tony
has recorded in many studios in the Western New York area , BCMK , Mark,
Round Robin & Select Sound to name a few. His band Mr. Funny
put out a single to raise money for kids escaping drugs. He also has played
on the “Show You Care” CD by Bruce Rounds; Glen Colton CD’s and has done
various jingles.
The
stage is where Tony Blasting is most comfortable. With a wealth of energy
& enthusiasum his stage presence is entertaining and infectious.
Since joining The Bleeding Hearts in 2002, he has been a major force. With
a positive attitude & strong live performances Tony has been a welcomed
addition to the band.
